Michael O’Neill is a freelance photographer and writer specializing in travel and natural history subjects, particularly tropical Atlantic and Indo-Pacific destinations, marine wildlife and environmental issues. An avid conservationist, he has traveled extensively and authored many articles focusing on marine life and travel destinations.

Michael left his native São Paulo, Brazil at age 18 for college and a career in the United States. Eventually settling down in South Florida with the Gulf Stream at his doorstep, Michael began photographing the area's rich marine life in 1991. Michael's images have since been published in BBC Wildlife Magazine, Ocean Realm, Sport Diver, Skin Diver, Southern Diver, and Freshwater And Marine Aquarium Magazine. His photographs have also appeared in several books - "Nature Watch: Sharks", "Manatees & Dugongs of the World" and "Animals. Animals, Animals".

Michael received a first place award in the prestigious 2002 British Gas Photographer of theYear competition and was highly honored in the 2002 Nature's Best International Photography awards. He is currently working on a children's book about the ocean and its creatures, due for publication in 2003.
